Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who contribute their skills and knowledge to leading, monitoring and guiding the activities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations. Individuals in these roles operate in two worlds; they have cultural obligations to their community as well as legal and financial obligations to the wider community and funding bodies.

Entry requirements

Students should be in either a Board or CEO position of an Aboriginal Controlled Not for Profit organisations.

All applicants must undertake a Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment as part of the enrolment process to ensure appropriate assistance is provided throughout the course.

Self-paced (8–12 months)

Fees

$2500 for full qualification

RPL/CT $1000 + $100 per unit

Delivery modes

This course has two modes of delivery, distance/on-line or blended delivery, providing flexibility for those students who are balancing work with study.

If you choose blended delivery a flexible plan will be prepared based on your individual needs and may involve a combination of:

• Workshops

• Distance/on-line

• Contextualised projects

• Recognition of current competence through oral questioning, workplace evidence and third party collaboration

Workshops may be delivered either face to face at a physical venue or they may be delivered in a virtual environment using an on-line platform.All workshops are facilitated by a fully qualified and experienced facilitator and designed to be interactive and informative.

Students are encouraged to complete online activities prior to any scheduled workshops.

Credit transfer and recognition of prior learning

Recognition of Prior Learning is available and students will be throughout the process. Credit transfer is available for units of competence that are equivalent. AbSec LDC recognises the qualifications and statements of attainment issued by other RTOs.

A total of 12 units must be completed to achieve the qualification.

    • BSBFNG402: Interact with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisation members and the community


    • BSBFNG403 Participate as a board member of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisation


    • BSBFNG401: Plan and chair Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisation’s board meetings


    • BSBFNG409: Comply with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisation director obligations


    • BSBOPS306: Record stakeholder interactions


    • LGACOR011: Analyse financial reports and budgets


    • PSPGEN097: contribute to conflict management


Elective units (5):

    • BSBFNG404: Maintain and protect cultural values in an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisation


    • BSBCMM412: Lead difficult conversation


    • BSBSTR502: Facilitate continuous improvement


    • BSBPEF502: Develop and use emotional intelligence


    • BSBFNG405: Review and apply the constitution in an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisation  OR

      BSBFNG406: Assist in developing and implementing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisational policies


Other electives may be available for those undertaking a blended delivery mode.
